Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych told reporters about the paces of economic development over the last three years at a press conference in the Ukrainian House, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, the last three years were difficult for Ukraine.

"Since 2010 we have balanced over the precipice and gradually begun to come out of the difficult situation. But the most important thing is that along with tough anti-crisis measures we have managed to begin the modernization of the country. In 2010 we were able to start the program of reforms," the President noted.

"We were able to start the modernization that the country waited for 20 years ... Therefore, it is critically important to maintain the growth rates and to continue the development of the country," Yanukovych said.

The President reminded that the GDP growth amounted to 487 billion UAH in 2012 in comparison with January 1, 2010. Whereas, the growth rates in eurozone fell by half a percent.

"We have overcome the inflation, and it was minus 0.2% in 2012. There was a little deflation. We have reduced a level of the budget deficit, and it fell from 6% in 2010 to 3.8% in 2012. All these changes have provided an opportunity to strengthen the social policy," the President summed up.
