To optimize the economic growth of Ukraine, the core resources will be directed at the most promising areas, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during the extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The economic development stimulation program, worked out by the Cabinet, provides for concentration of resources on the areas, which will give largest profits," he said.

The Prime Minister said that the government is aimed at reducing dependence on imports, generating additional domestic demand, especially for domestically produced goods, increasing their competitiveness and stimulating exports.

"These goals cannot be achieved without structural modernization of the economy, science and technology, development of new high-tech industries," the head of the government said, adding that resources are used as efficiently as possible, and decision making will be transparent.

"Ukraine has every opportunity not only to strengthen its traditional competitive advantages, such as iron and steel industry or chemistry, but also to greatly enhance the role of high-tech sectors, not in the future, but right now," Azarov said.

According to him, biotechnology, new materials, medical equipment will also be the priority sectors for Ukraine.
