The State Migration Service of Ukraine has developed a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which provides for issuance of biometric passports to citizens of Ukraine for traveling abroad, chairman of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Mykola Kovalchuk told a press conference in Kyiv.

"We have prepared a draft resolution of the Cabinet. If there is appropriate funding and legislation, the resolution will be introduced until 2016," Kovalchuk said.

According to him, the draft resolution has been already approved by 10 of 15 services. The State Migration Service relies on the approval of this document until March 2013.

The chairman also said that approximate financing for plan for the implementation of biometric passports by 2016 makes up 800 million UAH.

He noted that so far the information available on the second page of the passport and a photo of the owner is planned to be included in the biometric passports for travel of Ukrainian citizens abroad.

However, he did not rule out that in future the biometric passport will contain additional information, such as fingerprints.

Kovalchuk also assured that the passport will be protected against unauthorized disclosure of information. He noted that while he can not say how much biometric passport will cost.
