The leaders of Ukraine and the European Union hopes for Kyiv to reach a progress towards meeting the conditions required for the signing of the Association Agreement before early May, a joint statement of the 16th Ukraine - EU summit agreed in Brussels today reads.

"The leaders took into account the steps taken by Ukraine by this time and hope for Ukraine to achieve its concrete progress by early May, 2013," the statement says.

The document states that the leaders confirmed their adhesion to sign the initialed Association Agreement, including a deep and comprehensive free trade area, as soon as Ukraine shows its decisive actions and tangible progress in three areas: reforming of the electoral law, solving problem of the selective justice and continuing the reforms under Association’s Agenda.

"To achieve this goal Ukraine intends to act in accordance with the terms and provisions determined in the conclusion of the European Council on Foreign Relations on December 10, 2012," the statement says.

In addition, the leaders of Ukraine and the European Union agreed to correct deficiencies registered during the parliamentary elections in Ukraine on October 28, 2012.

The parties agreed to consider quickly issues related to the uncertain results of elections in several single-member districts.
