Ukraine's former Acting Defense Minister Valeriy Ivashchenko has said that Denmark granted him not only a residence permit, as the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry previously stated, but also political asylum.
He said this in an interview with the Kommersant-Ukraine newspaper, Ukrinform reports.
"I received an official document from the Danish Immigration Service dated January 31, 2013, stating: 'You received asylum in Denmark as a refugee under clause 1, paragraph 7 of the law on foreigners and the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees," Ivashchenko said.
He also said that he can provide photocopies of the document he received, which consists of 15 pages.
"My wife received the same document," Ivashchenko added.
