The gas sector reform in accordance with the rules of the Energy Community will provide Ukraine with access to a large EU gas market, and hence the ability to export own gas production to the EU, EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said.
"The European Union is seeking to settle the question of future gas flows that will be received in the EU, as part of a balanced three-way dialogue between the EU, Russia and Ukraine. The EU also wants to join the tripartite consultations on gas transit," the Commissioner said.
According to him, the European Commission is ready to actively support the reform of the gas sector in Ukraine, and to support the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport infrastructure in cooperation with international financial institutions - the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank.
Mr. Oettinger emphasized that the purpose of this modernization is that Ukraine remains to be a key part of the all-European energy system.
