The 16th Ukraine - EU summit begins in Brussels on Monday, February 25. The Ukrainian delegation at the high-level meeting is led by President Viktor Yanukovych, and the European Union is represented by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

One of the main issues put on the agenda is the prospects of signing the Ukraine - EU Association Agreement, including the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area, UKRINFORM reports.

The issue of deepening economic integration between the parties will also include a decision on granting macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, discussion of the economic situation in the country, as well as cooperation in the energy sector, public financial management and administrative reform.

The participants at the summit will discuss the prospects for the introduction by the EU of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. In this regard, the Ukrainian side is planning to present progress in implementing an action plan on visa liberalization and confirm the achievement of most criteria envisaged in its first (legislative) phase.
