Public confidence in immunization has been undermined in recent years, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at the meeting with public organizations and experts in health care.

According to him, in some regions of Ukraine, only 40% of children have been immunized, although there are regions with the index of 95%. "This situation is provoked by the subjective and objective factors, but most importantly, no clear-cut position on this issue has been voiced by the Cabinet," the official said.

Therefore, the Government has driven attention to medicine in general and to drug market in particular. "There is competition between vaccine manufacturers in this market, and they do not always use civilized methods. However, Ukrainian enterprises have demonstrated the ability to produce high-quality medicines," Azarov said.

He referred to the experience of countries where, unlike in Ukraine, there are strict rules on immunization. "Whether you like it or not, the vaccination is done, otherwise a child drops out of school, from kindergarten. Vaccinations are absolutely required, and no one calls them into question. We have a different system. So we have to take measures to raise the immunological protection of the population," the head of the Cabinet concluded.
