Ukrainian roads exceeded their useful life, director of the Shulgin State Research Institute for Roads Vasyliy Nahaychuk said during retreat at the site of repair of the Kiev-Odessa highway, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, the Ukrainian roads were mostly built in the 1970's, using liquid organic binders that eventually liquefy the bitumen of the lower layers, disrupting the structure of the coating material.

Director of the Research Institute said that, given these factors, the Ukrainian roads do not meet current traffic loads. "Even if we patch the roads, which have already served their time, using the most advanced coatings and technology, they still will not serve ... They need complete rebuilding," Nahaychuk concluded.
