Foreign minister Leonid Kozhara hopes for effective trade area with the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2013, he said in an interview with the ICTV TV channel.

"I hope that a free trade area with the CIS, which has been already ratified by Ukraine and Russia, will be effective this year and will work," he said.

According to the minister, Ukraine is able to participate in the free trade area with the European Union, Customs Union and Common Economic Space (Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus).

The minister hopes that an Association Agreement with the EU, which includes an agreement on free trade area, will be signed in 2013.

Kozhara stressed that the volumes of foreign trade of Ukraine with the EU and the countries of the Customs Union are significant, and both directions are important for the country.
