At the current stage of the development of relations with the European Union a priority for Ukraine is the signing of the Association Agreement, which envisages the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area,President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said in interview with the analytical magazine "Ukraine and the World in 2013. Global Agenda".

According to the President, bringing relations with the EU to a qualitatively new format of political association and economic integration “is an important step towards Ukraine's further full-scale integration into the European Union”.

He said that the EU-Ukraine summit, which is scheduled for February 25, 2013, “would help bring together the positions in addressing topical issues of bilateral cooperation with the EU”.

Responding the question about cooperation with the Customs Union, Yanukovych noted that Ukraine's trade with the countries of the Customs Union exceeds 60 billion dollars and has a trend to further growth. Therefore, according to the President Ukraine is set to search for tools of effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with this integration union.

Head of the state expressed confidence that not only Ukraine, but also all members of the Customs Union were interested in the development of effective instruments of cooperation. "We are ready to consider the possibility of adapting at the national level the regulations of the Customs Union concerning the free circulation of goods and services that are not inconsistent with our international obligations. I'm confident that the required format of cooperation with the Customs Union will be found," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych said that such steps would help Ukraine deepen partnership with the countries of the Customs Union in the field of nuclear energy, aircraft construction, shipbuilding, transport and agricultural machinery, as well as in other fields.
