Rise in bread prices in Ukraine is groundless, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, opening the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"There are no grounds to raise the price of the cheapest types of bread. Instead, there is an unlimited opportunity to use cheaper flour from government stocks," PM said.

He informed that since July 2012 to January 2013, the regions received about 40 thousand tons of grain crops from the Agrarian Fund, which does not exceed 10% of their previously stated needs.
Azarov instructed agrarian policy and food minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk to study this situation.

The head of government also said that respective authorities were already dealing with the cases of an unjustified rise in bread prices in some regions.

Azarov stressed that some producers decided to “play around with the prices of such a socially sensitive product as bread”.

PM added that he ordered to inspect thoroughly the Kyivkhlib bread enterprise.
