Family violence remains a serious problem for Ukrainians, deputy justice minister Lidia Horbunova said during the final meeting of the All-Ukrainian inter-agency coordination and methodological council on legal education of the population, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to her, the Kyiv city center of social services for families, children and young people in 2012 provided social services to 10.5 thousand victims of family violence (more than two thousand children including).

"Last year, the local departments for prevention of domestic violence received nearly 85.000 calls, 560 calls - from children, 76.199 - from women, 8.230 - from men. These indicators reflect the seriousness of the problem and the need to improve protection against various forms of violence. The children have particular need for protection," she said.

According to Horbunova, number of complaints about family violence against women has increased.
"In 2009, in Ukraine there were registered about 80.000 applications from women about family violence. For the first 9 months of 2012, there were almost 85 thousand of such applications," she said.
