At the meeting with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström, foreign minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara expressed the hope that the Parliament will quickly consider the laws, necessary for implementation by Ukraine of the first phase of the Action Plan on visa liberalization with the EU.

Foreign minister informed of the progress in the implementation of first (legal) phase of the Action Plan.

In particular, Kozhara drew attention of the EU Commissioner to the adoption of legislation necessary for the introduction of biometric passports in Ukraine, improving the protection of personal data, as well as to the first results of the implementation of the law of Ukraine on principles of prevention and combating discrimination in Ukraine.

Kozhara also informed Malmström on working out the laws, the adoption of which is necessary for the completion of the first phase. The minister expressed the hope that their prompt consideration by the Verkhovna Rada will allow the EU to decide on transition to the second phase of the Action Plan.

The parties also discussed the progress of internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the Agreement on visa liberalization, signed in July 2012, and also discussed other issues of cooperation in the field of justice and home affairs.

Kozhara thanked Malmström for her personal active role in the issue of visa dialogue with Ukraine and invited the EU Commissioner to visit Ukraine.
