The United States welcomes the sentence to former chief of the external surveillance department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Oleksiy Pukach and hopes that the Ukrainian authorities will find the contractors of murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze.
"We take note of the sentence to Oleksiy Pukach for his role in the murder of Georgy Gongadze, a brave Ukrainian investigative journalist who was kidnapped in Kyiv more than 12 years ago," the statement of US government, sent to US Embassy in Ukraine, reads.
The U.S. government welcomes the news and hopes that the Ukrainian authorities will continue "investigating the case to bring to justice" those, who ordered kidnapping and murder of Gongadze.
"The U.S. government will always support journalists, who work to inform the public and expose corruption and injustice," the statement says.
