Yesterday in Brussels, foreign minister of Ukraine, Leonid Kozhara met with the EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger, the Foreign Ministry press service informs.

The parties exchanged views on the priorities of domestic and foreign policy of Ukraine in the field of energy. Officials discussed the increase in production of domestic energy resources, optimization of their import and energy efficiency.

Commissioner and the minister touched the energy agenda of EU-Ukraine summit.

In addition, Kozhara and Oettinger discussed the issues of deepening bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the energy sector under the Energy Community Treaty.

The parties talked over the provision of the EU and Ukraine with energy, including the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, reverse gas supplies from the EU member states in Ukraine, as well as the prospects of shale gas production in Ukraine.

Ukrainian foreign minister assured the EU Commissioner that Ukraine will remain a reliable transit country to supply EU member states with Russian gas.

Kozhara and Oettinger noted the successful cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of nuclear energy.

As a reminder, the EU-Ukraine summit will be held on February 25 of this year.
