The Cabinet of Ministers will submit for consideration by parliament a draft law on amnesty in 2013, which was prepared by the Ukrainian Justice Ministry and approved at a government meeting on Wednesday, the Justice Ministry's press service has informed, Ukrinform reports.

"The draft law on amnesty in 2013 proposes that an amnesty be granted for categories of convicts who committed minor or moderate crimes," reads the statement.

He provisions of the bill can be applied to minors, pregnant women at the time of the entry into force of the law, women and men with children under the age of 18 or disabled children, retirees, veterans, the disabled of the first, second and third groups, as well as people with TB, cancer, etc. In total, these are about 1,500 people of these categories.

The ministry noted that the adoption of the law would help reduce the number of people who are currently serving their prison terms, but do not represent a significant danger to society. In turn, this will be a manifestation of the state's humanity in the sphere of the execution of criminal penalties, the Justice Ministry said.
