As of today, about 80% of the taxi market is in the shadow. Only one thousand taxi drivers out of 20 thousand have licenses, chairman of the taxi drivers trade union Vasyl Popik told a press conference "Reorganization and reform of the taxi market in Ukraine", ForUm correspondent reports.
Due to the changes in legislation of taxi market, the powers of the State Service for Ground Transport Safety Control were expanded.
The head of the trade union of taxi drivers said that according to the law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine on state regulation and safety management of transport and roads", inspectors on ground transport safety received uniform and traffic wand to stop carriers to verify the legality of their work.
According to him, the main task is to legalize the taxi market.
"The State Service for Ground Transport Safety Control has a right to deprive the illegal taxi drivers of their cars for the systematic violation of the law," Popik said.
