74% of Ukrainians are aware of what the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are, while 23% are unaware of that, head of sociological research company Research & Branding Group Yevhen Kopatko informed, ForUm correspondent reports.

However, according to the expert, the residents of regional centers have better knowledge of the GMOs – they show 82% awareness. This percentage is less among the inhabitants of villages and other towns.

In addition, sociologist noted that the majority of Ukrainians (71%) think the topic of GMOs relates to them personally. "For women a GMO issue is more important than for men - respectively 74% and 66%," he said.

He added that 80% of Ukrainians believe that GMOs are dangerous to health, and only one in 10 takes the opposite view.
