Ukraine cannot move forwards without the reconciliation of all political forces, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said during the solemn meeting on the occasion of the Unity and Liberty Day, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The movement of the united nation is impossible without political reconciliation. Elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine showed that all the parliamentary forces advocate reforms and modernization of the country, the achievement of high standards of living. This creates the conditions for a political consensus and opens prospects of quick reforming our country," Yanukovych said.
In President’s opinion, the Ukrainian politicians should make up the decision.
"The only question is, whether our politicians can step over their own ambitions for the sake of our common cause - to build a rich and powerful Ukraine. We share democratic values - freedom of speech, thought, choice. Society expects not promises and slogans from politicians. Ukraine and its people need practical steps to improve the law, overcome corruption, punish lawlessness. You can dream of many of the modern state, but without the rule of law, executive discipline, advanced training, this dream will be unattainable," he said.
