Flu epidemic is expected in Ukraine, head of the respiratory and other viral infections department of the Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of Ukraine Alla Mironenko told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Now there is a rise in the incidence of influenza. It has not yet reached the epidemic threshold. It may reach the threshold in two or three weeks, but the epidemic will be in Ukraine for sure. We have already seen in the neighboring countries," she said.
According to the doctor, this year the epidemic process will be at the average level of intensity.
Mironenko stressed that the strains, circulating in Ukraine, are already known. "This is H3N2, which we expect to be the leading agent of the epidemic. H1N1 won’t be dominant, as it has been acting in Ukraine for two years in a row and already more than half the population is immune to it. In addition, we expect influenza B,” she said.
