
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych wants to grant more autonomy to higher education institutions, he said at the meeting of the Committee on Economic Reforms, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Active control of the state over activities of the higher education institutions should be replaced by autonomy. In this regard, the government and the association of employers have to conduct a large-scale work. The Education Ministry together with higher education institutions should develop and implement educational qualification standards," he said.
According to the President, it will help achieve the competitiveness of graduates in the labor market to meet the needs of economy.
Yanukovych noted that inclusion of the domestic universities in the ranking of the best international universities will be the best indicator of the successful modernization of higher education.
