The European Union is interested in the establishment of the tripartite consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transport system with the participation of Ukraine, the European Union and Russia, head of Mission of Ukraine to the EU Kostyantyn Yeliseev said in interview.
"The EU is interested in participating in a joint consortium with Ukraine and Russia, that is, in a trilateral format. Of course, Brussels understands that Ukrainian and Russian parties should reveal political will to involve EU in this project. To date, as far as I understand, the Ukrainian party is interested in attracting the European Union. However, there is an issue of the Ukrainian-Russian relations, the EU-Russian relations," he said.
Yeliseev also noted that the interest of the EU to the trilateral consortium was confirmed during his meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger.
"A striking example of sincere interest is that the EU is ready to facilitate the mobilization of resources from the international financial institutions to modernize the Ukrainian gas transportation system," the Ambassador said.
According to him, a pilot project for modernization of the GTS at the site "Urengoi-Pomary -Uzhgorod" is now at the final stage. "The EU understands the value of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and the importance of its participation in the trilateral format," Yeliseev concluded.
