Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has introduced new chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Oleksandr Yakymenko to the executive staff of the Service, the President’s press office informs.

Yanukovych noted that Yakymenko showed himself a responsible person at the post of first deputy chairman of the SBU.

The President also thanked Ihor Kalinin for his work as head of the Service. Yanukovych noted that Kalinin will coordinate the work between the Administration of the President, the National Security and Defense Council, the police and the Defense Ministry, occupying the post of the President’s adviser.

The President wished Yakymenko and Kalinin successful work at the new posts.

He reminded that in 2013 Ukraine will continue implementing reforms in different spheres of life. It is planned to implement a number of important measures related to the reform the law enforcement system. The President urged Yakymenko and Kalinin to work together to reform the Security Service, noting that all decisions in this regard should be professional, balanced and effective.

Yanukovych paid special attention to questions of the effective implementation of the new Code of Criminal Procedure, the main purpose of which is to protect human rights and to create equal conditions of competition for the prosecution and defense. The President stressed the importance of staff training within the implementation of new legislation.
