Over the holidays, the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine put out more than 1 thousand fires, in which 79 people were rescued.

"The State Service departments identified and defused 40 explosive objects during the last week. The main event, when we attracted rescue unit service, took place on January 6-7. Two Kyiv residents got lost in the mountains in Ivano-Frankivsk region," head of the State Service for Emergency Situations operational duty service department Volodymyr Demchuk told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

Demchuk also said that social patrols rescued over a thousand people from freezing over the holidays. The injured were transported to warming centers.
 
According to head of operational duty service department, today there are more than 3.200 warming centers and 41 thousand Ukrainians have already used their services.

Meanwhile, director of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida warned that a significant amount of snow has fallen in the Carpathian Mountains for the holidays and the avalanche season has begun.

"Over the weekend, 27-31 millimeters of precipitation fell, and the snow is still fresh. It is the main reason for avalanche formation," he concluded.
