On the night of January 1, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych congratulated Ukrainians on the New Year and wished "every family health and fulfilment of desires and hopes."
Yanukovych said that the year 2012 was marked with new achievements for our country. Ukraine successfully held the European Football Championship 2012, thus inscribing its name in the history of European football.
"The next year should become a year of development and social justice," the President said, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.
According to him, the beginning of work of the new Parliament and government gives opportunities for constructive cooperation among all major political forces for the benefit of Ukraine.
"The protection of national dignity should become the main principle of our foreign policy, while unity and harmony of the Ukrainian people should be the key response to the new challenges of economic crisis. I believe we can unite for the sake of our happy future," the President stressed.
