Former Ukrainian interior minister Yuri Lutsenko has agreed to an operation to remove a polyp in his intestine which is scheduled for early January, the Segodnya newspaper reported on Friday referring to a press secretary of the People's Self-Defense Party Larysa Sarhan.

According to her, Lutsenko will be treated at his own expense in a private clinic in Kyiv.

"The operation is very difficult and dangerous, after it the patient needs two weeks for rehabilitation to prevent internal bleeding," the press secretary said.

"Yuriy Vitaliyovytch Lutesnko's mom died of rectal cancer, and there is a risk that it is hereditary. So far this is a benign tumor, which is 0.8 cm in diameter, and it is growing very rapidly," Sarhan added.
In the clinic, where Lutsenko wants to undergo the surgery, they said that a polyp of 0.8 cm in diameter is considered to be large and a surgery may cost around UAH 20.000.

The penitentiary officials said they were settling all the organizational issues with the doctors.
