The newly elected Parliament should take responsibility for the results of its work as the voters expect the MPs to work effectively to gain the economic recovery and stability, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the Council of Regions meeting, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.

"I hope that this Parliament will be more responsible for the results of its work," he said.

"This parliament reflects ideological preferences and demands of the electorate more objectively. No doubt, the Parliament is becoming a multipolar center for public policy discussions, due to its composition," Yanukovych said. He expressed confidence that the voters had not vote for "barricades and revolution", but for fair policies - that is why the elections had been held without turmoil and confrontation.

However, the President emphasized that the election fraud cases will be investigated. "I'll keep the progress of the investigation under my personal control," he said.

The President also expressed the hope that the President, the Parliament, the Government, the National Bank, the regional government will act on the basis of mutual understanding in the next year.

"The time when the political struggle initially affects the economy and foreign policy is in the past. This is evidenced by the fact that the parliamentary election campaign was civilized, held in a democratic format," the President concluded.
