Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has awarded 184 Ukrainian scientists with the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The ability of Ukrainian scientists and engineers to generate world-class scientific results is not just a cause for pride, but also a good base for the economic sovereignty of the country. Ukraine gives tone to the world scientific community in a number of areas," he said.
In his address to the laureates, Azarov emphasized the results of the work of physicians, who have implemented into the practice the methods of reproductive technologies to treat infertility.
"The best estimate of the work has been the birth of 8.5 thousand healthy people," Azarov said.
In addition, the Prime Minister paid attention to the Electrotyazhmash state enterprise, which designed a new type of turbine generators for thermal power plants.
"We need to upgrade thermal engineering. I'm sure it will be done on the basis of domestic developments," he said.
Prime Minister assured that the priority for the government is to support scientific researches, scientific groups and schools.
"In the coming years, we will have to pass from a predominantly commodity specialization of the national economy to a modern high-tech model," Azarov summed up.
