Ukrainian health care system needs to be reformed, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, addressing the students of the Bogomolets National Medical University, ForUm correspondent reports.

In particular, he noted that the domestic medicine is impeded only by one thing - lack of reforms.
"However, once you start the process of reform, criticism appears immediately," he said and added that only constructive criticism helps the work, but criticism is often destructive in Ukraine".

Azarov pointed out that, according to staffing, there is a significant shortage of physicians in Ukraine- 47 thousand. At the same time, the Ukrainian surgeon has work 10 times less than his German counterpart has. Premier said he is outraged by the fact that Ukrainian patients are treated three times longer in the hospital than in other countries.

According to him, Ukraine needs to raise productivity of labor in the health care system, and create modern and innovative facilities.

"Hence there is a need for unpleasant decisions that will make do a certain leap. However, any reform of the government without trained personnel usually turns a failure," he concluded.
