Ukraine can not be fully independent state under the gas dependence on Russia, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Volosyn told a round table, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, Ukraine should not underestimate the risks and challenges, which existed in the early days of independent Ukraine and have not disappeared yet. "We still have not resolved the issue of gas dependence on Russia. Over the last two years, we did much to resolve it. However, I am deeply convinced that Ukraine can not be fully an independent state, if it so much depends on the strategic resources of its neighbor," Voloshyn said.

Voloshyn also expressed confidence that Ukraine cannot talk about the relations with Russia only in ideological way, having the trade turnover of nearly $ 60 billion. "The government must address the eastern challenge to our foreign policy and statehood. Geopolitical pluralism in the post-Soviet Russia is a challenge to our national security," Voloshyn summed up.

As a reminder, the price of imported natural gas in the first quarter of 2012 amounted to about 416 dollars per thousand cubic meters, in the 2nd quarter - about $ 425 per thousand cubic meters, in the 3d quarter - 426 dollars, in the 4th quarter - about $ 430 per thousand cubic meters.
