Ukraine bows to the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster for their high professionalism, dedication and sacrifice for the sake of future generations, the address of President Viktor Yanukovych on the occasion of the Day of honoring of the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster reads.
"Many of those, who took the first blow of a nuclear disaster, unfortunately, went into immortality, leaving sorrow and pain in our hearts," the address, published on the official website of the President, reads.
Yanukovych expressed his deep respect for the experts, who now perform important tasks to minimize the serious consequences of the world's largest man-made disaster.
"I thank these people for their hard work," he says.
"On post of the President, I will continue monitoring the timely and full implementation of the law, as well as my own initiatives to ensure social security of the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster and the victims' families," Yanukovych promises.
The President has also called on all citizens to pay constant attention to the heroes of the Chernobyl disaster and to adequately thank them for the salvation of the present and future of the country.
On behalf of the Ukrainian people, Yanukovych has wished liquidators and their families good health, prosperity, long and happy life.
