Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that high gas prices will make Russia to lose the Ukrainian market.
"Preserving the high gas price for Ukraine, Russia loses the largest European gas market of 70 billion cubic meters per year," the President said in an interview with The Hindu newspaper.
According to him, Ukraine has no money to buy gas at prices, higher by nearly $200 per cubic meter, than the Europeans prices.
"We are looking for alternative sources, replacing gas with coal and we plan to produce a synthetic gas from coal," he added.
In this case, Yanukovych expressed confidence that Ukraine and Russia will agree on the gas issue.
