Maintenance of positive trade dynamics is an important task for the governments of Ukraine and India, President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of India said in a joint press statement after their talks in New Delhi, the President’s press service informs.

"We are pleased to note the significant increase in bilateral trade, which in 2011 reached the highest level in the history of the Ukrainian-Indian relations - about $ 3 billion," Yanukovych said.

The parties have also outlined the most promising fields for the expansion of the Ukrainian-Indian cooperation. "These are, in particular, energetics, metallurgy, chemical industry, shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, infrastructure, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and hotel business," the President said.

According to Yanukovych, recovering the work of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Indian commission for trade, economic, scientific, technical, industrial and cultural cooperation after the nine-year break is an important step in the deepening of international cooperation, particularly in these areas.

The issue of cooperation in the defense and aerospace industries has been also discussed in course of negotiations.

"I and Mr. Prime Minister have noted the continued successful implementation of the largest in the history of the Ukrainian-Indian relations contract for the repair and modernization of the 105 Indian An-32 aircrafts," Yanukovych said.

He also stressed that special attention during the talks has been given to the prospects for deepening existing cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and science and technology.
