More than 120 thousand Ukrainian men, women and children have become victims of human trafficking since 1991, the representative office of International Organization for Migration in Ukraine reports.

"Unfortunately, Ukraine still suffers from modern slavery," head of the Ukraine's IOM office Manfred Profazi stated and added that the organization had already helped nine thousand victims among Ukrainians.

"IOM works hard to improve awareness of migrants about their rights and to improve state's possibilities to protect its citizens from traps of modern slavery," Profazi said.

IOM office in Ukraine also informed that on December 4 it had the sixth award ceremony for merits in combating human trafficking and awarded a number of public organizations and individuals for their contribution into the fight against modern slavery.
