
Today, Ukraine has taken the first real step towards its energy independence, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during a video conference on the occasion of the launch of the LNG Terminal national project, ForUm correspondent reports.
"I congratulate all of you on a truly historic moment, because today we have taken the first step, the first real big step towards gaining energy independence of Ukraine ... The terminal will take such gas volumes so that we become independent players in the energy market. And this is extremely important," the prime minister said.
According to him, a large investment project on construction of LNG Terminal is implemented in Ukraine "in times of economic crisis, which shows again the investment attractiveness of the country, the confidence investors have in Ukraine".
"I would like to recall that in the past 2.5 years we have made great efforts to implement major energy conservation programs for Ukraine's provision with own gas and oil. Today's event logically fit into the policy, conducted in Ukraine in the last 2.5 years," he said and wished all participants success in project implementation.
