The former head of the group of advisors of the National Bank of Ukraine Viktor Lisitsky believes that the regulator should terminate licenses of banks for refusing to sell foreign currency to customers.

"Currently, the banking sector is saturated with foreign currency and therefore banks' reluctance to sell the currency can be seen as their desire to continue using it for currency speculation. In such circumstances, the National Bank should take the plunge and terminate licenses of such banks," the financier said.

At the same time, in his opinion, banks that do have a problem with the presence of foreign currency shall first seek the help of the regulator.

He noted that the regulator has not applied such sanctions previously, but the NBU has the authority to terminate license of banks for failing to sell foreign currency.
