EU nuclear scientist: Ukrainian NPPs safety standards correspond to European level

Safety culture at nuclear power plants in Ukraine corresponds to the European standards, the director of the Spain Cofrentes NPP human factors and organizational issues department José Buedo told a round table, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the nuclear scientist, the issue requires constant attention and quite a lot is done in Ukraine in this regard.

"I think that the safety culture at Ukrainian nuclear power plants is at the same level as in the EU. A very good sign is that, despite its achievements, nuclear scientists of the country continue working to improve the safety culture," the expert said.

He stressed the importance of providing nuclear safety programs with adequate material resources. "The government of each country where there is nuclear power, should consider this issue a priority. The Energy Ministry of Ukraine takes constant attention to such issues. It is especially valuable after Japan's Fukushima accident," Buedo said.
