The increase in number of calls of family violence victims testifies to the fact that the population trusts more the agencies countering such threats, deputy social policy minister of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kolomiets told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"126.5 thousand complaints from violence victims were registered in 2011. In addition, number of such addresses has increased recently," he said.

According to the official, there were about 79 thousand complaints in 2009, and already 110 thousand in 2010. "For 9 months of 2012 there have been already 85 thousand complaints. As we see, the number is increasing, but it is evidence not only of the growing number of such cases. In our view, it also shows that there is a certain confidence in the public authorities with responsibilities for combating family violence," he said.

Kolomiets also added that 90% of the requests come from women. "This is only the data that is recorded. Therefore, we understand that the percentage of domestic violence is much higher. This applies both to applications from women and from men, because men are addressing the appropriate authorities much less," the deputy minister said.
