During celebration of the Orange Revolution anniversary on Maidan Nezalezhnosti square, police officers protected public order within their competence and did not prevent conduct of rally, Kyiv police department press service statement reads.
The press service noted that on November 22 at about 5 p.m., supporters of individual public organizations began to gather to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the Orange Revolution.
According to the police department, at 7:30 p.m. about 30 protesters put a tent near the main post office building and tried to bring it across the Khreschatyk street to the Monument of Independence.
"The policemen, who were protecting the public order in this place, took appropriate precautionary measures and prevent the illegal putting of the tent. The individual activists tried to break through the police cordon and get out into the Khreschatyk street with heavy traffic to get to the other side of the street. As a result of this incident, there was a fight," the statement reads.
The law enforcement officers detained five men for disorderly conduct and took them to Shevchenkivsky district police department in Kyiv to find out all the circumstances and bring the perpetrators to administrative liability.
