Absolute growth of the population of Ukraine has been recorded for the first time since independence, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

The Prime Minister said that, as of October 1, 2012 "Ukraine's population increased compared with September 1".

Azarov said that this year, an increase of the population is observed in 10 out of 27 regions of Ukraine: Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Volynska region, Zakarpatska region, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Kyiv region, Odesa region, Rivne region, Ternopil region, Chernivtsi region, as well as in cities of Kyiv and Sevastopil.
 
"To make the trend irreversible, we need to identify the main factors contributing to population growth. This is a real improvement of social standards and the development of the healthcare system," he said.

Prime Minister paid special attention to set of measures aimed at reducing the mortality rate in the country. He recalled that Ukraine has already opened 6 perinatal centers, and by the yearend it is planned to open three more.

"In 2013, we will complete the construction of perinatal centers as a whole," he said and added that all the Ukrainian medicine should reach the level of the latest European standards and be affordable for citizens.
