Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Care and MP from the Party of Regions Tatyana Bakhteyeva does not support adoption of the new law on organ transplantation, according to which every Ukrainian can become an organ donor after death, she told reporters on the sidelines of the Parliament, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to her, this bill does not include information what the death of human brain means. In addition, Ukraine passed already the legislation on transplants.

"The legal base that exists in our country since 1999 is the same as the American, British or Australian. So today we have a presumed consent, and a person, who wrote a note while alive, allows to use his organs," she said.

However, the doctor said that the statistics of similar operations in Ukraine is catastrophically low, and this situation must be changed.
