The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has failed to pass the law on amendments to the Land Code of Ukraine (trade in agricultural land) in the wording of the first reading.

184 MPs (with the necessary 226 - Ed.) out of 345 deputies registered in the session hall have voted in favor of the amendments.

The draft law intended to amend section X "Transitional Provisions", which provides for banning the right to land plot (share) in the registered capitals of economic societies prior to the enactment of the law on the trade in agricultural land.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn said that this bill "actually removes the barriers so that one barrier to the land market remains - a law on the trade in agricultural land". According to him, "earlier, there were a few more barriers."
