Ukraine has moved two positions upwards in the Global Competitiveness Index 2012 ranking, senior manager of research group for global competitiveness and productivity of the World Economic Forum Thierry Geiger said during the 5th National presentation of the Report on Ukraine Regions Competitiveness, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the expert, a significant improvement in Ukraine’s position is reasoned by stabilization of certain macroeconomic indicators. "A significant increase in infrastructure parameter was recorded in 2012 as well. Today we can speak about the country's transition to the next stage of development - the performance-driven economy," the expert said.

Geiger said that all the regions of Ukraine improved their positions in ranking. "While the gap between leaders and laggards has declined significantly. As before, the first place in the regional index is up to the capital, Kharkiv is the second, Dnipropetrovsk is the third," the economist concluded.
