Energy and coal industry minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko said that Ukraine intends to take part in the Southern Gas Corridor pipeline project, under which Caspian gas will be delivered to Europe.

The minister stressed that Ukraine considers the implementation by Russia the South Stream project as a problem for the Ukrainian gas transportation system, but taking measures to pump their GTS with Caspian gas.

"The South Stream project is a problem for us, because if it is implemented it will take volumes from our GTS. However yesterday I held talks in Turkey on the possibility of our participation in the Southern Gas Corridor project - transporting gas from Azerbaijan through Turkey to Europe. We have already applied an official request to the Shah Deniz consortium, which shows the benefits of our transportation system. Here we have a policy of transporting gas through our GTS and our storage facilities to Europe. Therefore, the Russian colleagues has its own policy, and we have our own policy on this issue," Boiko said.
