The life expectancy of Ukrainian men is much lower than in Europe, chief nutritionist of the Healthcare Ministry of Ukraine Oleg Shvets told press conference "International Men's Day: the aspects of health and longevity", ForUm correspondent reports.
"Compared with the European statistics, the Ukrainian men live 10 years less than Europeans. I also note that 60% of men smoke. More than half of men are overweight and more than half suffer from high blood pressure. All these factors, of course, lead to negative consequences.
"In order to be healthier, men should eat healthy food: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products and, of course, limit intake of processed meat products, confectionery and alcohol," the nutritionist said.
According to Shvets, Ukraine is the second largest alcohol consumer after Moldova.
"Ukrainians consume 17 liters of pure ethanol per year," Shvets summed up.
