Ukraine may join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan if the economic crisis continues in the European Union, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Vladimir Yelchenko said in his talk with the students of the Moscow State Linguistic University.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities consider that the Customs Union needs time to work properly and that by 2015 the CU "must get its final form."
The Ambassador noted that Ukrainian experts now carefully studying the processes of formation of joint bodies of the Customs Union and economic processes in Ukraine and the Customs Union.
Yelchenko said that for the first time in the last five years, the volume of trade turnover between the CU countries and Ukraine has exceeded volumes of trade turnover between Ukraine and the European Union.
Thus, according to him, Ukraine's European integration does not give up, but no one knows how much time is required for this process.
He hopes that at some point the desires and possibilities of Ukraine and the EU will coincide.
