New Criminal Procedure Code does not provide for immediate creation of the State bureau of investigation, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka told a briefing.
According to the official, new Code provides for formation of the State bureau of investigation within five years. The Prosecutor General explained that for this period white-collar crimes would be investigated, as it used to be, by Security Service and Interior Ministry.
"In our opinion, the State bureau of investigation cannot be formed immediately. We do not see possibilities even for 2013," Pshonka said.
He noted that law enforcement bodies should work by the norms of new Code for a while to learn the process of pre-trial investigation, to study all nuances of investigative activities and counterintelligence operations, provided by the new Code, and only then to start discussing the formation of the State bureau of investigation.
