The concept of police reform, which must be adopted in the near future, will promote the activation of the corresponding changes in this field, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during a speech at the coordination meeting of law enforcement officials, ForUm learned from the press service of the President.
According to the President, the basis of the reform should have a realistic approach. It is necessary to solve issues on regrouping of forces and means and efficient allocation of competences between the law enforcement agencies.
Yanukovych stressed a need to increase incentives for good work of law enforcement bodies and provision of personnel stability. "The quality of work of the law enforcement and judicial authorities directly affect the rights and freedoms of people. Therefore, mistakes and imprudent steps in this field have an extremely high price," he said.
The work on preparation and approval of the police reform concept should be carried out gradually, systematically and comprehensively, the President stressed.
