Ukraine will reach the gas independence in 2020, minister of environment and natural resources of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky said at the opening of the international forum GREEN MIND, ForUm correspondent reports. The official said that "If we do everything as planned, there will be no mistakes."
According to the minister, Ukraine consumes about 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. We extract 22-23 billion cubic meters. So the deficit is 28 billion cubic meters of gas. The basic production at Yuzovska area is 10-15 billion cubic meters per year, and that at Oleska deposit - 3-5 billion cubic meters. The shallow shelf at the license fields of Chornomornaftogaz will give 1-2 billion cubic meters of gas next year and with the lapse of time - 8-10 billion cubic meters," Stavytsky noted.
He added that today the exorbitant price of the imported gas is hindering the development of Ukraine. "And this irritates all of us. We are intending to get rid of this obstacle," the head of the Environment Ministry summed up.
